Courtney Barnett
End of the Day
Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett has built up her reputation as a witty indie rock sensation but in a new and gorgeous chapter she has recently released End of the Day, an instrumental album of elegant ambient soundscapes.
Comprised of 17 improvisations originally recorded in 2021 as part of the score to the film Anonymous Club, Courtney returned to these tracks a year later, remixing, re-ordering and reframing them into a seamless meditative collage.
End Of The Day is a meditative, slow-burning and beautiful record, prioritising atmosphere, tone and texture over traditional song structures and melodic hooks. It's a fearless and stunning turn for an artist who built her formidable reputation through profound lyricism and riff-based fireworks.
Courtney Barnett’s End of the Day show for Perth Festival is an intimate evening split into two sets. The first set sees Courtney and collaborator Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint) perform instrumental songs and improvisations from the soundtrack. The second set features Courtney performing from her incomparable back-catalogue.
