Perth Festival fosters a safe and inclusive environment
Perth Festival encourages a safe, secure and inclusive environment that welcomes people from all backgrounds.
We support the rights of everyone to participate safely and freely in issues, recognising that people will have many different perspectives, personal experiences and opinions that reflect the complexity and rich diversity of our community.
At this time, there is great concern and distress felt by members of our community in response to the suffering and tragic loss of innocent lives in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Our hearts are with all those who are hurting or have lost loved ones or friends.
Perth Festival seeks to bring people from broad backgrounds and perspectives together to embrace our shared humanity and foster understanding and compassion through a diverse program of artistic experiences. We believe art has the power to unite people and bridge divisions.
We are committed to ensuring our artists and audiences have a safe space to share their voices. We oppose censorship and reject bigotry, harassment and discrimination of any kind. We condemn violence and the inciting of hate or violence. We utterly reject Islamophobia and anti-Semitism.
People should consider the impact of their statements and actions, and should not cause hurt, humiliation or intimidation of others. We all have a collective responsibility to engage with each other – including our audiences, artists, staff and volunteers – in a mutual spirit of safety, inclusivity, respect, courtesy and tolerance.
