Ten young book lovers are taking over Patricia Crawford Courtyard to host literary sessions with their favourite authors. Expect all the hard questions and a whole lot of fun!

The Sound of Picture Books: Dumazi and the Yellow Lion - FREE
llustrator and composer Matt Ottley and author and musician Valanga Khoza join West Australian Symphony Orchestra’s string quintet and Yamaha’s Alf Dumazi for an event that is always a Festival highlight.
This unique and engaging family performance brings narration, music, imagery, drama and demonstrations of composition together to create a little magic. Ottley and Khoza co-present the captivating story of Dumazi and the Big Yellow Lion while the musicians perform music synced to the illustrations from the book on a large screen.

Cheeky Dogs Workshop - FREE
Meet Northern Territory artist Dion Beasley and writer Johanna Bell and three real-life cheeky dogs. Get to know the artist, learn some Auslan and draw your very own cheeky dog inspired by Dion’s creations and the pair’s award-winning books.
We repeat, THERE WILL BE DOGS.
Pat and sketch away on Sun 23 Feb at Somerville Auditorium, 10am & 1pm.

Paper Bird Kombi - FREE
The Paper Bird Kombi crew are back with fun activities and lively storytelling sessions for the young and the young at heart.
Kick back in the shade on both Saturday and Sunday and get inspired by books, arts and crafts.
Young Adult Writers Sessions
Meg Caddy - Meg is passionate about storytelling, pirates and lizards, topics that will no doubt come up when she chats with Brendan Ritchie.
Songbird - Ingrid Laguna talks to Renee Pettitt-Shipp about her latest middle-grade book, Songbird, the story of a bright-eyed, sweet-voiced girl called Jamila whose family has settled in Australia looking for a new life.
Julia Lawrinson - Hailign from Perth, Julia Lawrinson is an award-winning writer of books for children and young adults, including Maddie in the Middle and Before You Forget.
Hear her talk about writing on controversial topics in YA Fiction with A.J. Betts.
Authors on the Red Carpet – A.J. Betts, Barry Jonsberg and Craig Silvey discuss the surprises, challenges and their stories of screen adaptations in a session facilitated by Brendan Ritchie.
