Land, Money, Power, Sex - These are the forces that make our world turn
For our Literature & Ideas program, we wanted to dig a little deeper into how.
Here’s three of our group chats (or panel discussions, if you prefer) we find captivating because of what we do and don’t understand on the topics and experiences they navigate.

LOVE & TENDERNESS
Welcome to guys talking about girls with 21st century-tinted glasses.
Four very different male authors will join Meri Fatin to discuss the women characters in their books, and how they write about female strength.
Where do ladies belong, gender gaps and the male gaze – who knows what direction they will head in?
Featuring Tommy Orange, Tony Birch, Chiké Frankie Edozien and David Stavanger, expect an insight into the world of representing gender in a way that is incredibly reflective of your time and personal context.

HEIST
A window into the banking crisis and its aftershocks. Prepare for tremors.
A journalist and a solicitor walk into a room and discuss how our money makes the world go round – from the banking crisis’s to the aftermath of them, their time will be worth every cent.
Journalist Daniel Ziffer covered the Hayne Royal Commission into the Banking Industry for the ABC. Managing Solicitor of the Consumer Credit Legal Service (WA) Gemma Mitchell is a passionate advocate for consumer rights. With their powers combined, we have a HEIST on our hands.

PLACE AS A CHARACTER
When the protagonist is a city, there’s always more to explore.
Sex and the City isn’t the only place you’ll discover a location in the starring role.
Three authors will provide a taste of how they capture their settings as storylines, not just as a location. Through the joy of place, to the fear of it, join H.M. Naqvi, Pitchaya Sudbanthad and Elizabeth Bryer as they open your eyes to worlds that can exist without the guidance of people.
