A buŋgul is a ceremony, a meeting place of dance, song and ritual.
Created on country in North East Arnhem Land with the Yunupingu family, Buŋgul is a ceremonial celebration of one of the transcendent albums of our time. You’re invited to experience the traditional songs, dances and paintings that inspired Gurrumul’s final album, Djarrimirri (Child of the Rainbow), in a live performance by Yolngu dancers, songmen and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra directed by Senior Yolngu Don Wininba Ganambarr and Nigel Jamieson.
This project was initiated by the Yunupingu family and Skinnyfish Music.

Leviathan | Circa

The art of circus is taken in an exciting new direction as 36 performers hang from a grid suspended in the air and propel themselves across the stage, tumbling, balancing and soaring together. The dramatic power and extreme skill of Circa’s trademark acrobatics thrillingly expose the tension between the mass and the individual in an epic theatrical event that is both deeply moving and physically stunning.

Set out on the road trip of a lifetime with a spunky teenager running away from school, two hippies, a wily Uncle and a German priest. By the time you shake the red dust from your feet, you’ll know what it means to come home.
A feel-good mash-up of rock-and-roll, gospel, country and blues music made the first-ever Aboriginal musical a sparkling success in 1990. It returns to Perth Festival 30 years on with a stage that recreates the historic Sun Pictures open-air cinema in Broome and costumes that are delightfully nostalgic.

Acclaimed German soprano Christiane Libor plays the heroic Leonore who hatches a daring plan to free her husband from the secret dungeon where he has been wrongfully imprisoned.

Take a seat and join two of WA’s favourite families for a once-in-a-generation theatre event as Tim Winton’s award-winning novel Cloudstreetcomes to life on stage.
The Lambs and the Pickles are as contrasting as the Australia they inhabit. In post-war Perth they share an old house at No 1 Cloud Street that’s haunted by a dark history. Over the course of two decades their lives become entwined in ways they couldn’t have imagined.
A Black Swan State Theatre Company of WA and Malthouse Theatre co-production presented by Perth Festival.
