Boorna Waanginy Announced Finalist in Australian Event Awards
This crowd favourite was so popular we had to bring it to Perth twice!
We are thrilled that our 2019 Festival opening in Kings Park, Boorna Waanginy: The Trees Speak, has been confirmed as one of the best events in Australia as a National Finalist in the 2019 Australian Event Awards.
The recognition is a testament to the vision and passion of former Festival artistic director Wendy Martin and the incredible talent, skill and generous collaborative spirit of the Noongar storytellers, artists, scientists and thousands of WA schoolchildren involved in creating the event.
More than 200,000 people took a nocturnal walk of wonder through Kings Park over four nights to experience Boorna Waanginy’s spectacular high-tech 3D projections, animation, sound and lighting effects.
Perth’s favourite park was transformed into a giant canvas to celebrate the splendour and diversity of the Noongar six seasons, our precious environment and the urgent need to protect the land we share.
Following a rigorous first round of judging by event industry leaders and experts around Australia, Boorna Waanginy’s place amongst the National Finalists has the weight of the industry behind it.
Entries are judged on all aspects of event management including best practice, innovation, marketing, stakeholder engagement and management, sustainability and event legacy.
Perth Festival is very grateful for the hard work of our event volunteers and the support of the partners who made Boorna Waanginy possible: Principal Partner Lotterywest; Founding Partner UWA; International Excellence Partner Chevron; the State Government and Tourism WA; City of Perth; PAV Audiovisual; Kings Park and Botanic Garden; The West Australian and Audio Technik.
Congratulations to all the other Australian Event Awards nominees and finalists from across the country, especially all the other amazing Western Australian contenders. The Australian Events Industry Awards will be held in Perth for the first time next month and we can’t wait to be a part of the fun.
Co-chair of the Event Awards Judging Panel Brenda LaPorte said: “The Australian Events Industry is truly inspirational. From small events that draw together communities in regional towns to events that deliver marketing benefits to some of the biggest brands in the world, the finalists in this year’s awards have made a massive contribution socially, economically and environmentally.
“They are all to be congratulated for their achievements in making finalist and for making the job of the judging panel so very difficult in selecting the winner in each category.”
Winners of the Australian Event Awards will be announced at a lavish Awards Ceremony on 18 September at Optus Stadium, Perth.
