Plugged In

A music program for those just starting out!

Plugged In is a program designed to uplift and empower women, trans and non-binary folks working in the Perth music scene. Aimed at musicians who are just starting out, this series of engagements helps grow your confidence and comfort in the production and technical side of the music performance industry.

About Plugged In

Guided by the phenomenal Bec Price of PROJECT BEXX, six participants experienced a series of open sound-checks, performances, talks with sound technicians and artists, behind-the-scenes venue access, and technical learning opportunities.

Plugged In 2024 was run with generous collaboration and support from WAM (West Australian Music) and WOMPP (Women of Music Production Perth).

This program was open to women, non-binary folk, and trans or queer folk under 26 years of age.

Daniela Garbin

My name is Daniela. I was born in Fremantle. I am a writer who has always had a musical ear and deep love for all music. Especially pop music. I love to sing and those who know me, know I don’t stop doing it. I also have a passion for the youth, community, mental health and creativity.I have a journalism background, and have covered local news, reviewed food, entertainment and theatre productions. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Journalism at the University of Notre Dame. I aspire to be a multi-media artist who bounces between film and music industries, curating and designing worlds, story boarding, directing and writing scores, scripts and songs. And of course interweaving my passions through these art forms. Because a good story or song is powerful.

I am a Perth-based performer originally from the Wheatbelt region of WA. Majority of my experience has been theatrical, and I've had the opportunity to work with local community groups as well as perform in events with larger theatre companies within Perth and interstate. My goal with the Plugged In program is to diversify my skillset and to get more exposure to the music scene of Western Australia.

As an avid music lover who spends my free time at local gigs, I’ve grown my interest by volunteering at community radio station, RTRFM. Now, I’m excited to join the Plugged In 2024 team to further educate myself on the inner workings of the music industry to progress my aspirations.

Heya! I’m Lauri, a multidisciplinary creative often moving between Naarm and Boorloo. I have previously had my work shown in Science Gallery Melbourne, local galleries, markets and online spaces. Outside of my artistic practice, I work in community services, volunteer and study. I love exploring music as a way of processing experiences and sharing in emotion. As a trans musician I am still exploring my voice, finding new joy in the changes. I’m excited to keep experimenting with audio and learning as I go.
