Seeds of Change

Seeds of Change

The hit of 2017, Boorna Waanginy: The Trees Speak, is back to transform Kings Park into a nocturnal wonderland over four spectacular nights.

Noongar culture, science, cutting-edge technology and breathtaking artistry come together to celebrate and explore the interconnectedness of all life and the fragile beauty of South Western Australia’s landscape. Trees come to life, stories are shared and the urgent need to protect our environment is evident through an enchanting and unforgettable 1.5km journey in Kings Park.

Central to the success and power of  Boorna Waanginy is the Seeds of Change program, an ambitious school project which in 2017 saw thousands of Western Australian school children learn about and pledge to protect a species of flora & fauna from their local area. Students were asked to contribute a seedpod lantern with a drawn image of their species that went on to form the magical installation at the conclusion of the event. This year the project will have a new advanced component, Ground Beneath Our Feet, which aims to help schools undertake all sorts of projects and collaborations to bring about change in their immediate neighbourhoods and to protect Western Australia’s unique biodiversity.

Education Program

The education resource for 2019 contains a number of ways that classes can engage with Boorna Waanginy and the themes around it. The project is flexible – you can choose to engage with these activities as much or as little as you want. Your involvement can be as simple as constructing seedpods with your class, or as complex as a full research and re-vegetation project.

This education resource can be adapted to suit any primary school year level and features a variety of activities to choose from.
