A Theatrical Machine: Theatre Making Masterclass with Nassim Soleimanpour (NASSIM)

Workshops & Masterclasses

What is a machine? Is it possible to make a machine with words, phrases and sentences? Is it possible to run this machine by anyone, a random actor or their audience members? Can an ‘unfictionalized’ actor successfully subvert the fictionalizing power of a theatrical event? And if, the frame is subverted in this way, is it still theatre? Or has the whole event evaporated back into life? Or maybe something else? A theatrical machine.

Independent multidisciplinary theatre maker Nassim Soleimanpour (NASSIM) is known for his multi award-winning play White Rabbit Red Rabbit and follow up play BLANK. Both works are performed by a new guest actor with each performance who does not receive the script until they walk on stage.

Nassim’s works have been translated into more than 25 different languages and performed more than 1,000 times by names including Sinead Cusack, Ken Loach and Whoopi Goldberg.
