West Australian Opera
Wundig wer Wilura
By Gina Williams & Guy Ghouse
A Perth Festival Commission
Award-winning songwriters and storytellers and Perth Festival favourites Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse bring more Noongar magic to the stage with the world premiere of their opera Wundig wer Wilura.
How far would you go for love? Wundig was a handsome young man, a good hunter and much-loved member of the Hills people. Wilura was a beautiful young woman, adored by her family, the Grass people. Wundig wer Wilura is the Dreaming story of two star-crossed lovers whose souls are banished to Mt Brown and Mt Bakewell in York.
Following their celebrated debut Noongar opera Koolbardi wer Wardong Gina and Guy return to the operatic stage, once again under the direction of Matt Reuben James Ward. All the elements of great opera are here in this story of family and connection, obligation, rebellion, love and betrayal with catastrophic consequences. Delight in the music, experience the beauty of the language of this land and fall in love with the characters in this epic production.
