‘The most heartwarming spy movie ever made.’

Indiewire

Meet 83-year-old undercover agent Sergio. The most unlikely spy in the most unlikely documentary. His mission – to infiltrate a retirement home and investigate claims of elder abuse. But this is no 007. He’s been cast in the role by a private detective and isn’t exactly up on the latest technology and spying techniques. Once he’s on the job, he quickly grows tired of the spying and makes friends with the other residents. In scenes that alternate between humour and heartbreak he brings conversation and comfort to some lonely lives.

Maite Alberdi’s The Mole Agent is a stylish combination of observational documentary and spy movie, with sleek camerawork and wonderfully watchable characters. Quirky and full of fun it also takes a serious look at old age, compassion and loneliness.
