‘Rousing and naturalistic underdog tale.’

The Arts Desk

When middle-aged Inga loses her dairy farmer husband in an accident in rural Iceland, she must find a way to become self-sufficient. She decides to start a new life on her own terms and takes on the corruption of her local co-op and the outdated, exploitative male-run system that supports it.

The latest from acclaimed filmmaker Grímur Hákonarson (Rams, Perth Festival 2016), The County is a stirring and heart-warming film that masterfully blends humour, injustice and that trademark Icelandic gruffness together with the lightest of touches. This quintessentially Icelandic dramedy will have you cheering for Inga, the down-to-earth underdog, in a way that calls to mind the hero of Woman at War (Perth Festival 2019).
