Local writer Emily Paull and poets Nandi Chinna and Caitlin Maling are joined by the author of Paris Savages Katherine Johnson to read from their latest books.

Caitlin Maling is an award-winning poet who grew up in Western Australia, mainly in the suburbs around Fremantle. She moved to Melbourne to complete her BA in 2007, then to Cambridge to complete a Masters of Philosophy in Criminological Research. She returned to Perth and then left for Houston to complete an MFA in poetry, for which she received the WA Department of Culture and the Arts International Scholarship.

Emily Paull is a former bookseller and future librarian from Perth who writes short stories and historical fiction. Her work has appeared in numerous anthologies as well as Westerly journal. When she’s not writing, she can often be found with her nose in a book.

Nandi Chinna works as a research consultant and community arts facilitator. Her publications include Our Only Guide is Our Homesickness (Five Islands Press, 2007), How to Measure Land, (Picaro Press, Byron Bay Writers Festival Poetry Prize winner, 2010); Alluvium, (with illustrator Andrea Smith, Lethologica Press, 2012); Swamp; walking the wetlands of the Swan Coastal Plain (Fremantle Press, 2014); and The Future Keepers (Fremantle Press 2019).

Katherine Johnson is the author of three previous novels: Pescador’s Wake (Fourth Estate, 2009), The Better Son (Ventura Press, 2016) and Matryoshka (Ventura Press, 2018). Her manuscripts have won Varuna Awards and Tasmanian Premier's Literary Prizes. The Better Son was longlisted for both the Indie Book Awards and the Tasmania Book Prize. Johnson holds both arts and science degrees, has worked as a science journalist, and published feature articles for magazines including Good Weekend. She lives in Tasmania with her husband and two children. She recently completed a PhD, which forms the basis of her latest novel, Paris Savages.
