Leni Shilton is a poet, nurse and educator who has worked in Aboriginal adult education for 25 years. She speaks to Shenali Perera about her new book Malcolm, a verse novel about a deeply distressed child.
Leni Shilton is a poet, nurse, educator and researcher who has worked in Aboriginal adult education in the Northern Territory for 25 years. She has twice won the Northern Territory Literary Poetry and Essay Awards, and in 2015 was shortlisted in the University of Canberra Poetry Prize. She currently works for the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yunkunytatjara Women’s Council in Alice Springs, running violence prevention programs. Malcolm is her second verse novel. Her first, Walking with Camels, was published by UWA Poetry in 2018.
