Design School

Design processes cracked open

In 2021 we will host our first ever Design School for 10 West Australian high school students. Design teams play a pivotal part in bringing live performance to life, be it lighting, set and scenography, sound and music, or technology.

Participants should be in Years 10 – 12 in 2021.

About Design School

In Design School, participants will meet with designers of Perth Festival shows to explore how a show concept goes from page to stage. They will participate in testing out new works, learn about a range of design disciplines and hear first-hand from designers about the role they play bringing shows to life.

As a group, Design School participants will meet with three designers from different fields in the lead up to and during Perth Festival 2021. All activities will take place outside of normal school hours.

In order to participate, students need to be nominated by their teacher via the form below.

What we're looking for

To participate in Design School, students should:

  • Have a keen interest in any element of theatrical design (lighting, sound, set, costume, technology etc.)
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn more about design processes and meet with working designers
  • Be in Years 10, 11 or 12 in 2021
  • Live in Western Australia
  • Be able to attend events in person, in the lead up to and during Perth Festival 2021 (mid-January– end of February 2021)

Perth Festival actively strives for diversity in our programs and encourages nominations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and culturally and linguistically diverse students.
