Welcome To The World of Words

Perth Writers Festival

About

The perfect place to indulge your passion for beautiful writing, lively debate and big ideas

Join Perth’s favourite celebration of the written word as we take an exhilarating journey through the world of books, with more than 100 events for lovers of debate and discussion, poetry and storytelling. For three days the Perth Writers Festival creates a literary hub in the idyllic setting of the UWA campus. Join conversations with literary luminaries including the 2008 Booker shortlisted Sebastian Barry, former head of MI5 Stella Rimington, and New York Times‘ bestselling writer James McBride. Be enchanted by new work from Robert Drewe, Kate Grenville and Robert Dessaix.

On sale now is the opening address Peter Singer: The life you can save. Described by Andrew Denton as Australia’s best known thinker and by the New Yorker as one of the most influencial philosophers alive, Peter Singer questions what value can be put on human life and demonstrates how we, as individuals, have the power to eradicate life-endangering global poverty.

Back by popular demand, New York’s hottest literary event The Moth features some of the best authors in the Festival.

Devotees of non-fiction will be fascinated by Alan Weisman, the worldwide bestselling author of The World Without Us, and Mark Kurlansky, renowned author of Cod and The Last Fish Tale.

All Perth Writers Festival events are listed in the full program and on this website, released Wed 28 Jan.
